The Background

Everyone should be able to live, learn, work and participate in the digital world.  We have seen accelerated changes in how and where we work due to so many external factors and enhancements in technology. For many organisations the past couple of years have brought to the fore the already widening gap and discrepancy between the skills people have and those needed for jobs in the world that is emerging, particularly those involving digital technologies. We see more and more transformation in our everyday world with the expanding environment of on-line transactions, from weekly shopping to banking to forging personal relationships.

Upskilling the global workforce to bridge the digital divide is a complex problem that requires business leaders, governments and educators to work together to make the world a more resilient, more capable and more inclusive place.

This is particularly crucial for St James’s Place (SJP) with it being a FTSE 100 company providing a range of wealth management solutions from investments to pensions, with an investment management approach based on a clear vision that the best talent is not confined to one firm or location.

The digital world now has such a prominent place in everyday life and there is the added complication of the unprecedented and unforeseen current global pandemic that many businesses are trying to navigate the aspect of remote working in a way that works effectively for them and to not lose any of their staff engagement, drive and energy which could so easily be impacted.

Offering a range of apprenticeships in many areas across the business including Business Administration, Marketing, IT, Accounting and Financial Planning and a structured graduate programme it is vital to ensure that world class learning is available at people’s finger tips and to be able to attract and retain the best talent.

The Brief

To create a world class digital learning experience to ensure that SJP acquire, develop, retain and engage the best talent in the wealth management industry and beyond.

An Award-Winning Outcome

When we joined SJP on their journey to make their learning environment modern, interesting and engaging we knew they had their sights set on a number of industry accredited learning awards.

The Learning Awards

The annual Learning Awards are considered the highest accolade you can receive in workplace learning and development.

We’re pleased to share SJP were recently awarded the Gold Standard People Development Programme of the Year award, presented to a private sector enterprise that has implemented a proactive, large-scale People Development Programme for their employees which shows demonstrable business impact and performance improvement for the organisation.

SJP also received a Silver award for Digital Learning Transformation, presented to an organisation that has transformed its delivery, products or services by using digital learning tools, and is saved for entrants who are only one or two judging points away from Gold.

Learning Excellence Awards

The Learning Excellence Awards reward relevant, agile, innovative, excellent and effective initiatives, programmes, products and services in the training/ learning and development sector. SJP celebrated a double award win taking home the coveted Digital Innovation of the Year award and achieving ‘Outstanding’ status for in-house training of the year.

Both the Learning Awards and Learning Excellence Award submissions highlighted a bespoke learning experience ‘House’ created by Huler to truly provide a world class digital learning experience, allowing for innovation and iteration overtime, growing to match the needs and requirements of SJP.

Introducing SJP House

With SJP working in such a highly regulated field, with content that can be perceived as dry and potentially difficult to interpret, especially when relating to statute or external regularity body information it is vital that the information is presented in a way that promotes best practice, learning and engagement that is easy to navigate and find when required.

Alongside this the importance of additional skill sets including coaching, mentoring, soft skills, sales, customer service and retention as well as management and leadership ensure a diverse and multi-layered offering of training is required across the platform.

SJP House ensures a consistent and engaging experience, accessible on various devices and browsers as well as across a multitude of scenarios and locations, including on the go. This also includes a mix of user types, including those designed to just operate the system as a colleague, a manager or administrator with each having differing levels of permissions based on requirements, as well as ‘audiences’ and audience management to ensure SJP can show the most relevant information to the right people which could include confidential information so security protocol is key.

SJP House encapsulates all levels of the organisation from new employees to apprentices, graduates and right the way through to the executive team and business owners of the partnerships. The platform hosts a variety of content including video streaming, SCORM files, video uploads, documents, URL links, PDF’s as an example.

Di Macdonald, Director of Learning & Development at SJP commented,

“When we started this project two years ago, we set our sights on winning a Learning Award. This inevitably wouldn’t have been possible without the Huler team. Their innovative learning systems has expanded and iterated over time, creating an application that grows to match the needs of SJP. It delivers a simple yet well thought out flow combined with a slick, modern user interface that encompasses our brand, culture and company values.”
